Recientemente salió un artículo en Outreach Magazine Titulado “Carne, Leche y la Iglesia Desnutrida” por Steven Furtick. En dicho artículo se presenta la falta de alimentación espiritual de los cristianos en América. Varias causas son discutidas, entre ellas la falta de auto alimentación. Los cristianos solo se conforman con el alimento espiritual que reciben el domingo y no practican el estudio personal y las disciplinas espirituales. Esto ocurre de acuerdo a Mr. Furtick a dos factores principales de los cuales todos somos responsables tanto los líderes como la congregación; el  descuido de los líderes en educar a la grey en como auto alimentarse de forma personal y privada durante la semana y el poco interés y falta de motivación de los miembros a aplicarse al estudio de la palabra gracias a su dependencia a recibir alimento ya digerido de sus líderes a través de las reuniones congregacionales.

Nuestra serie de sermones va dirigida precisamente a combatir esa falta de motivación e interés. Se enfatiza la importancia y la responsabilidad de cada miembro de la iglesia en auto alimentarse y practicar las disciplinas espirituales durante la semana de forma individual para crecer bien alimentados y nutridos en la palabra del Señor. En la serie de sermones Cristianos Esponjas, se proveerán consejos útiles y maneras de aplicar las disciplinas espirituales de forma sencilla para motivar  a la membresía a sumergirse más asiduamente en la vida espiritual, proveyendo además guía y apoyo para lograr hacer de la iglesia del Señor un cuerpo fuerte y bien alimentado donde cada miembro se responsabilice por la salud particular y grupal. Venga y aprenda con nosotros como mantenerse bien alimentado en el Señor toda la semana. También ofrecemos una pausa en los sermones para cubrir un tema especial el Día del Padre titulado: Lejos de Ser Perfecto. No long ago there was an article in Outreach Magazine entitled, Milk, Meat and The Malnourished Church by Steven Furtick. It presents the lack of spiritual nourishment within American Christians.  Several causing factor are presented, among them the lack of self-nourishment. Christians are content with being fed every Sunday even when some complaint of receiving “weak food” and that’s it! They do not practice personal study and spiritual disciplines during the week.  Mr. Furtick highlighted two main factors for this problem of what we all are responsible: the oversight of the church leaders to train the flock in self-nourishment in a personal individual level, and the dependency and lack of motivation from the members in study the Bible every day relaying in their leaders to teach them every Sunday what they will need to know about God and the Christian living.

Our Sermon Series addresses the need to fight against the lack of motivation and negligence. It emphasizes the importance and responsibility of each member of the congregation to self-nourish and to practice spiritual disciplines during the week in an individualized way to grow healthy and strong in the Lord’s Word. In this sermon series, Christian Sponges, will provide practical tips on how to develop a self-nourishment program and simple ways to practice spiritual discipline, combined with guidance and support as everyone learns how to feed themselves more effectively. Tranquilo y Confiado

Es difícil mantenerse tranquilo cuando el mundo a nuestro alrededor se desborona. Vivimos en un ambiente de inseguridad constante. Incertidumbre económica, inestabilidad política mundial, violencia individual y terrorismo interno, desastres naturales y enfermedad. Nunca estamos seguros si al salir de nuestras casas cada mañana, regresaremos vivos a ellas. No sabemos si en un abrir y cerrar de ojos perderemos todo o sencillamente estaremos fuera del mundo de los vivos.

Si usted es como yo, tratará de colocar estos pensamientos angustiosos en el fondo de su cabeza, de esa manera es como único puede seguir hacia adelante cada día. Las tragedias cercanas o lejanas nos golpean cuando más seguros nos sentimos. Cuando pensamos que todo está bajo control. Ya nos preocupa bajar la guardia. Cuando algo sucede, tal vez usted piense como yo, “¿Cuándo me tocará a mí?”

Para que usted no se angustie mucho con esto, déjeme decirle que esto no es algo nuevo. Desde que Dios creó al mundo y Satanás lo corrompió, la humanidad vive rodeada de estas mismas circunstancias. Unos años, las cosas son peores que en otros. La tragedia nos puede alcanzar no importa donde estemos. La Biblia y los libros de historia están llenos de ejemplos. Salomón dice: ¿Qué es lo que fue? Lo mismo que será. ¿Qué es lo que ha sido hecho? Lo mismo que se hará; y nada hay nuevo debajo del sol (Eclesiastés 1:9), Me volví y vi todas las violencias que se hacen debajo del sol; y he aquí las lágrimas de los oprimidos, sin tener quien los consuele” (Eclesiastés 4:1a).

No hay necesidad para nosotros de vivir bajo una angustia tan constante. Los eventos que ocurren a nuestro alrededor están fuera de nuestro control. El dios de este mundo (Santanas) no pierde tiempo para causar aflicción y caos; para llevar la desesperación a los corazones y hacer que la gente culpe a Dios por lo que no entiende y ni puede explicar, por aquello que lo aterra y lo hace sentir vulnerable.

Pero el Señor dice que nos acompaña y no nos abandona. Esto es, si nos ponemos bajo su protección, Él garantiza que nos dará esperanza. (Salmo 91:1; Salmo 55:22).

Jesús oró al Padre pidiendo esta consolación: “Yo ruego por ellos; no ruego por el mundo, sino por los que me diste;… éstos están en el mundo, y yo voy a ti…, guárdalos en tu nombre, para que sean uno, así como nosotros… No ruego que los quites del mundo, sino que los guardes del mal… Más no ruego solamente por éstos, sino también por los que han de creer en mí por la palabra de ellos,” Juan 17:9-20.

Por eso, usted puede descansar tranquilo si esta ya bajo el amparo y la protección de Jesús. No hay nada que pueda hacer para enderezar este mundo. Esas son las señales de que va camino a su destrucción final algún día.

Si todavía usted no se ha puesto bajo ese amparo que ofrece Jesús, habla con nosotros, podemos ayudarle a alcanzarlo. Para que pueda estar tranquilo y confiado.

 

At Ease And In Peace

It is difficult to live at ease when the world around us is collapsing. We live in a state of constant insecurity. Economic uncertainty, instability in the world’s politics and countries’ relationships, individual violence and terrorism (internal and external), natural disasters, and diseases. We never know if we will return home safe each day. We don’t know if in an eye blink we will lose everything or if we simply will disappear from the world of the living.

If you are like me, you will try to push those distressing thoughts to the back of your mind, as the only recourse to continue on with your life. Tragedies close and distant hit us when we feel the most protected and secured. We think  everything is under control. Things are going so far that we are worried to let our guard down for a minute. Maybe, like me, you think, “When will my turn be?”

Let me tell you something, so you do not stress too much with these thoughts. Since God created the world and Satan corrupted it, humankind has been through the same circumstances over and over again.  Some years are worse than others. Tragedy can reach us no matter where we are or what we are doing. The Bible and history books are filled with examples. Solomon says, “What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun.(Ecclesiastes 1:9  ESV),..Again I saw all the oppression that are done under the sun. And behold, the tears of the oppressed, and they had no one to comfort them!” (Ecclesiastes 4:1a ESV).

There is no need for us to live under constant anguish. We cannot control he events that happens  around us. The “god of this world” (Satan) jump to every opportunity to cause suffering and chaos; to plant despair in the hearts of the people and make them blame God for what  they cannot understand, cannot explain, that frighten them, and make them feel vulnerable.

But the Lord said, He will be with us and will not abandon us. Of course, if we put our self under His protection, He guarantees that we will have hope (Psalm 91:1; 55:22).

Jesus prayed to the Father asking this consolation, “…I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me,…  they are in the world, and I am coming to you… . I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one… “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word,” John 17:9-20.

Because of this consolation you can rest at peace if you are under His protection. There is nothing that can fix this world. Everything that is happening in the world is another evidence of the approaching destruction that awaits for it.

“Porque Solo Tu Jehová Me Haces Vivir Confiado” Salmo 4:7-8/ For You Alone, O Lord, Make Me Lie Down in Safety Psalm 4:7-8.

“Porque Solo T u Jehová Me Haces Vivir Confiado” Salmos 4:7-8

            No hay otro ser en que nosotros podamos tener paz que en Jehová. Nosotros desconfiamos hasta de nuestros familiares, ya que en ocasiones ellos solo se dedican a juzgarnos. Tal vez se deba a que piensan que solo ellos están bien, cuando en realidad nadie está bien. Esto y otras muchas cosas nos llenan de ansiedad y molestias.

             No debemos preocuparnos por esas cosas. Debemos poner nuestras miradas solamente en el Señor y de esa manera viviremos confiados.

¿De dónde viene la seguridad y confianza? De las promesas divinas. Dios prometió que nunca nos abandonará, aun en las circunstancias más difíciles por las cuales tengamos que pasar.

Aun podemos ir  más lejos, cuando te toque el momento de tu muerte di como dijo Simeón: “Ahora, Señor, despide a tu siervo en paz, conforme a tu palabra”. (Lucas 2:29)

             Cuando te acuestes, no tendrás temor, sino que te acostarás, y tu sueño será grato. Lo dice el SEÑOR. “Conserva siempre el buen juicio, no pierdas de vista la discreción. Te serán fuente de vida, te adornaran como collar. Podrás recorrer tranquilo tu camino, y tus pies no tropezaran. Al acostarte, no tendrás temor alguno; te acostaras y dormirás tranquilo”. (Proverbios 3:21-24).

Esta noche, cuando llegue la hora de dormir, di como el salmista. “Yo me acuesto tranquilo y me duermo en seguida, pues tú, Señor, me haces vivir confiado”   (Salmos 4:8).

There is no one else in whom we can have peace, only God. We tend to mistrust everyone, even our relatives because they sometimes spend their time passing judgement upon our actions. Maybe they think they are always doing what is right, when honestly no one is always doing what is right. This is some of the many things that make us anxious and bother us very much.

We shouldn’t worry about that. We should put our eyes only on our Lord and then we will be living in safety.

But, from where does that sense of safety come from?  From the divine promises. God promised to never abandon us even in the most difficult of the times that we have to endure.

We can even expect beyond that. When the time to depart this world comes you can repeat the words spoken by Simeon, “Master, now you are dismissing your servant in peace, according to your word;” (Luke 2:29).

When you go to bed, you will not be afraid, on the contrary, you will fall asleep and your dreams will be sweet. The Lord has promised that, “My child, do not let these escape from your sight:  keep sound wisdom and prudence, and they will be life for your soul and adornment for your neck.  Then you will walk on your way securely and your foot will not stumble.  If you sit down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet” (Proverbs 3:21-24).

Tonight, at bedtime repeat the words in Psalms 4:8: “I will both lie down and sleep in peace; for you alone, O Lord, make me lie down in safety.”

¿Vive usted con temor? ¿Su conciencia no le deja dormir? ¿A que le teme? ¿Cuáles son sus terrores nocturnos? ¿Qué lo atormenta constantemente?

Los temores son algo que pueden interferir con nuestras relaciones sociales, el trabajo, la escuela y la vida familiar.

Sabía usted que:

–el 40% de lo que nos preocupa nunca sucederá

–el 30% de lo que tememos, ocurrió en el pasado y no tenemos control sobre ello.

–el 10% de las cosas que nos preocupan son consideradas insignificantes por los demás.

–el 12% de lo que nos preocupa tiene que ver con enfermedades que nunca ocurrirán

–Esto significa que el 92% de nuestros temores nunca se harán realidad.

No espere más para deshacerse de esos temores infundados. La Palabra del Señor nos dice: ‘Tú me has hecho sentirme más feliz que ellos en los momentos de las mejores cosechas. En completa paz me acuesto y me duermo, porque tú, SEÑOR, me haces vivir tranquilo.” (Salmos 4:7-8). Are you living in fear? Can’t sleep at night? What are you afraid of? What are your nocturnal horrors? What is tormenting you constantly?

Fears can severely disrupt your normal life, interfering with school, work, social relationships and family life.

Did you know?

  • 40% of what you worry about will never happen
  • 30% of what you worry about or fear are things that happened in the past and can’t be changed
  • 10% of what we worry about are considered by most to be insignificant issues

Do not waste more time living in fear. Get rid of those nonsense terrors. God’s word said: “You have put gladness in my heart     more than when their grain and wine abound.8 I will both lay down and sleep in peace;    for you alone, O Lord, make me lie down in safety.” (Psalms 4:7-8 NSV) Come and join us this coming Sunday April, 7 to listen to our new sermon series: Living with Confidence in God. Todo lo que hagas, hazlo con Amor/And everything you do, do it in Love…

Todo lo que hagas, hazlo con amor…

No son exactamente las palabras del Apóstol Pablo en la 1ra carta a los Corintios, pero se parecen mucho… Este fue el consejo que mi madre me recomendó en mi primer trabajo. Y así he tratado de hacerlo todo el tiempo. Cuando por primera vez vi el capítulo 13 de la 1ra carta a los Corintios, no lograba entenderlo, pero a lo largo de mi vida cristiana cada vez mas comprendo mejor las palabras del texto sagrado. Especialmente este domingo, en que me tocó compartir la meditación de la palabra de Dios con mis hermanos en Arlington iglesia de Cristo.

Tuvimos una buena celebración dominical de adoración, mas invitados que llegaron a la reunión, otros más que regresaron después de su primera visita. Les estuve hablando de cómo Dios capacitó a su iglesia para anunciar el evangelio, y la ayudó mediante los milagros, las profecías y el conocimiento. La iglesia en Corinto se enorgullecía de tener tantos maestros, profetas y buenos predicadores, que hacían milagros, señales y comunicaban el mensaje en diferentes lenguas… Sin embargo,  la exhortación de Pablo fue que buscaran mas practicar el amor, que fueran más humildes buscando ser como el Señor, que buscaran compartir el amor de Dios; un amor que perdurará hasta el fin de los tiempos…

Muchas veces como ministro del evangelio, llegas a considerarte a ti mismo como un trabajador profesional, que al terminar el domingo, considera su día de trabajo terminado. Pero los planes de Dios muchas veces son otros. Por ejemplo, este pasado domingo Él tenía otros planes para mí. Después de llegar a casa con mi esposa e hijos y dispuestos a comer, recibimos una llamada de alguien que necesitaba nuestra ayuda…

¿Debería negarme? ¿No había nadie más que ayudara? Si te hablan a ti, es porque probablemente eres la última opción de la persona que te pide este favor. Las palabras de Pablo que acababa de predicar hacia apenas unos 45 minutos, vinieron a mi cabeza:

“Si yo puedo hablar varios idiomas humanos e incluso idiomas de ángeles, pero no tengo amor, soy como un metal que resuena o una campanilla que repica.2 Yo puedo tener el don de profetizar y conocer todos los secretos de Dios. También puedo tener todo el conocimiento y tener una fe que mueva montañas. Pero si no tengo amor, no soy nada.3 Puedo entregar todo lo que tengo para ayudar a los demás, hasta ofrecer mi cuerpo para que lo quemen.  Pero si no tengo amor, eso no me sirve de nada.

¿Cómo es que el Señor te esta hablando a ti? ¿Lo estará haciendo por medio de otros hermanos…, por medio de acontecimientos…, cuando entiendes un pasaje difícil?   Conmigo lo hizo mediante una llamada telefónica de auxilio…

—Entonces Señor, ¿me estas pidiendo que vaya y que practique el mensaje que enseñé en esta mañana?

El Señor no tuvo que repetírmelo… yo ya lo había entendido muy claro.

Al final del día, recibí un “muchas gracias, Dios te bendiga” de un alma muy agradecida y recordando, parafraseé las palabras de Jesús sobre la enfermedad de su amigo Lázaro:

“—Esta [situación]….., servirá para mostrar la gloria de Dios, y también la gloria del Hijo de Dios.”     Juan 11:4 PDT

¡Creo que alguien más, en un futuro próximo, vendrá a visitar a la familia del Señor en Arlington!

And everything you do, do it in Love…

Those are not the exact words used by Apostle Paul in 1st Corinthians, but there are very much alike. That was the advice my mother gave me when I got my first job. I’ve been trying to do it that way always. The first time I read 1st Corinthians chapter 13, I couldn’t understand it. Later though my Christian life I have been getting more and more understanding of these sacred verses. Especially this past Sunday, when I had to share some spiritual meditation based in God’s word with the congregation of Arlington Iglesia de Cristo.

We had a very heartfelt worship service, many new visitors attended, and some previous visitors came again. I spoke about the ways God prepared His church to go out to bring the Good News; using miracles, prophesies, and knowledge. The church in Corinth was proud of their teachers, prophets, preachers, brothers and sisters with the gift to do different kinds of miracles and others that spoke in tongues.  However, the apostle Paul urged them to practice more the fraternal love, humbleness, and to seek God’s love to share with others. It is the kind of love that will last forever.

Sometimes as ministers of the gospel, we tend to consider ourselves as professional workers. Our weekly work is completed at the end of the worship service. But usually God has different plans. For example, this past Sunday He had different plans for me.

After getting home to have dinner with my wife and children, I got a phone call from someone in need. Should I say no? Is there nobody else that could help them? Generally, when someone called you asking for help it’s because you are probably his or her last resource. The words of Paul I barely spoke 45 minutes ago came to my mind:

“If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.” 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 ESV

How is God talking to you today? Is He doing it by someone else…, by certain circumstances…, by understanding difficult scriptures?  To me, He spoke by a phone call asking for help.

Now Father, are you asking me to go and practice the message of the lesson I was teaching this morning? …He didn’t to tell me twice; I understood it very clear.

At the end of the day, I received a “thank you, God bless you” from a grateful soul. Then, I remember and paraphrased Jesus’ words regarding his friend, Lazarus’s illness:

“These (actions) ….will help to show the glory of God and the Glory of His Son Jesus Christ.” John 11:4 ESV
